What are the characteristics of an effective teacher? Just go back in time and think of the best teachers that you have ever had. I can almost guarantee that the teacher you are thinking of was not one that always went by the book and just read off slides. Its most likely one that had a real passion for what they were teaching and was always upbeat. An effective teacher provides experiences that created long-term memories. They create images in your head that will always come back. Even with this being said you might still be thinking how outrageous it is to say that great teachers don't teach. A teacher is more like a driving instructor in a way they stack the deck so that students have a reason to learn and in the process can't help but learn mainly by teaching themselves. This knowledge then becomes permanent and cherished rather than fake and irrelevant.
I agree with that. The title threw me off a little bit but as I read the post I came to the conclusion that it's a true statement. However, I would change it by saying that not only do they teach but they also inspire. As future teachers, we must keep that in mind. We might have the most organized classroom, the perfect management system, and be a great instructor but if we are not inspiring students than there is no point in anything. After all, the students won't remember the material as much as the life lessons they learn.
