5 Things all great teachers have in common

The quality of a teacher does not only rely on how well they can manage to get information into their students heads, but it also includes how well they can integrate activities and their presentation skills. A lot of teacher have a vast amount of information that their students would greatly benefit from, the issue that arises here is that many teachers don't know how to express and explain much of it. But being a good teacher does not always entail having great knowledge and wisdom , but its more about their attitude toward their students and their job. Here are the top 5 characteristics that many teachers have in common.

  1. Passion. Without truly loving what you do it is impossible to be really good at what you do. If you don't love what you teach how are you suppose to effectively teach it to others.
  2. Creativity. Students love a teacher who is able to make dull subjects more interesting by incorporating colorful and exciting printable into lessons or by making up games. And many times it keeps the learner active.
  3. Flexibility. Being a teacher is a committed profession. If a student does badly on a test then you have to be prepared to offer yourself to tutor them after school. You always have to be ready because plans never play out they way you planned
  4. Integrate. Everyday life is not left isolated, and neither should education. It doesn't matter if you are the only one in the entire school who is integrating, you should continue to do so.
  5. Connection. You cannot possibly hope to teach effectively without having a connection with your students.

Why elementary school counselors?

It is very important to have elementary school counselors. Many times teachers are busy doing their own work and teaching their class. Teachers most of the time don't have time to get to know each of their students. It is very important to listen to your students because sometimes they really need someone to listen to them. By providing education prevention early identification, and intervention, school counselors can help elementary students achieve academic success. School counselors work with, teachers and parents in order to create a caring climate and atmosphere.

How does field trips benefit children?

Field trips were a really important part of my elementary education. I remembered that going to field trips was a very fun and educational experience. Filed trips are not only a fun experience, but it also gives an opportunity to the child to have an educational experience away from their regular school. Sometimes sitting down the whole day in one class gets pretty boring, therefore students need a break from being in a class and educational field trips can be a very helpful option. Educational field trips include zoos, nature centers, community agencies such, hospitals, government agencies, and science museums. "Not only do field trips provide alternative educational opportunities for children, but it can also benefit the community" (Kulas, 2014). Overall educational field trips do help students learn in a different environment and teachers should take their students to field trips that can benefit their education.

Technology and Education

Technology has really come a long way in the last 10 years or so. Technology really helps make life easier, take for example before when you where traveling you would need to use a map to get from point A to point B. But now the majority of people have some navigation App on their Cell Phone. This is just one of the ways that it helps. Recently there has been an argument that technology also has its downfall especially when it comes to kids. The biggest of them all is that now kids are spending all their time in front of a screen of some sort whether it be a TV, Computer or phone screen. A lot of the time a child enjoys playing games in front of a screen instead of doing their homework which really effect the level of education kids are getting in today's world. But there is also a way technology can help us further and enhance education. Here are just some ways it may help.

  • Virtual or online learning: This is Good because sometimes at a school there is not a teacher to teach the subject you want so you can just find a online school and take a course there without the hassle of having to travel to different places.
    • Full-time online schools: This is basically the same as the previous one just mentioned but the difference is that instead of leaving you house you can take all your classes from the comfort of your home, this comes in extremely helpful if you live far away from any good schools of even if you are a stay at home mom trying to get a degree.
    • Blended learning: The strategy of blending online learning with school-based instruction is often utilized to accommodate students’ diverse learning styles and to enable them to work before or after school in ways that are not possible with full-time conventional classroom instruction. This can be very helpful to children who really struggle in the classroom and it may make learning more interesting to them.

These are just a Few of the ways technology can help us with education, I am excited for the years to come to see how much more we further this advancement.

Regardless if you are a religious teacher or not, being a teacher is a great responsibility. Its one of the most underestimated and underpaid jobs there is. The effort it takes to be a good teacher is crazy.
Something that also plays a part is being a teacher is where you are teaching. For example public schools may be more difficult because the classes are bigger and the kids may be ruder. But in a private school the classes might be smaller and the kids might be kinder. So that might be easier to handle. Usually the student to teacher ratio is smaller in private schools, which may enable a better learning environment for the students.  In my opinion I think that Christian schools are the best because they give more then just education, they provide you with solid a foundation.

    Sports and The Benefits

Sports in a big part in school especially public schools. But us as Adventist we don't really support or are involved in sports as much as the rest of the world. Which in my opinion is bad because sports is more then just a way to stay in shape. Regardless of what people say sports can be very helpful, especially to kids. Children have to be active every day. Physical activity stimulates growth and leads to improved physical and emotional health. Today, research shows that the importance of physical activity in children is stronger than ever. Another thing that kids learn from sports is sharing and team work which will definitely help them when is comes to real life situations. There is more then just these benefits, kids who are active are less likely to get sick and suffer from various health diseases when older. Exercise also helps relief stress, and Even moderate physical activity has been shown to improve a child’s skill at arithmetic, reading, and memorization. Sports can also boost the self-esteem and confidence of the children as well, especially when they find a sport they are good at. So in my opinion I think we should include sports more.

    Great Teacher Don't Teach

What are the characteristics of an effective teacher? Just go back in time and think of the best teachers that you have ever had. I can almost guarantee that the teacher you are thinking of was not one that always went by the book and just read off slides. Its most likely one that had a real passion for what they were teaching and was always upbeat. An effective teacher provides experiences that created long-term memories. They create images in your head that will always come back. Even with this being said you might still be thinking how outrageous it is to say that great teachers don't teach. A teacher is more like a driving instructor in a way they stack the deck so that students have a reason to learn and in the process can't help but learn mainly by teaching themselves. This knowledge then becomes permanent and cherished rather than fake and irrelevant.

What are ways to have a more organized classroom?

Their is different ways to have a more organized classroom. By having an organized classroom it benefits the students and also the teacher. An organized teacher is a teacher that cares about her students and the environment they are in. When a teacher has an organized classroom the student can concentrate better and learn better if they are in an organized environment.
"A well organized classroom that can practically run itself is easy to achieve." A classroom that has organized files, supplies and forms can easily be found and the teacher doesn't have to look for it, if she or he is organized. Here are some steps to organize your classroom:
Step 1: Organize resources and materials: color code everything
-Put everything in binders, like important documents of students
-Store items in boxes, like colors, books any supplies.
Step 2: Organize student records: make labels with each student's name
    -Be prepared for new students
    -Create a sitting chart
-Create an assignment basket or tray
Step 3: Train your students: establish classroom rules and policies, during the first week of school the teacher should establish rules with the students help and they should follow it.
    - Go over district rules with students as school rules, dress code, etc.
    - Explain class organization to students: tell students where supplies are located and where they should put it back after using it.
Step 4: Prepare for extracurricular events: For example, if  a student is done with their assignment, the teacher should have an extra activity for the student.
-If their is time the teacher should do activities to involve the classroom, so the students can interact with each other.
Step 5: Be prepared for absences: If a student is absence for class, the teacher should have the assignment prepared for next class and hand it out to the child, to turn it in next class.
